A warm meal every Saturday for 100 children in Botswana

When we launched our Saturday Feeding Programme in 2024 together with our local partner, the Lehikeng Capacity Building and Development Trust, around 40 children initially joined us. Today, that number has grown to as many as 100 children, and we provide around 15,000 meals every year.

For many families in Maun, Botswana, worrying about where the next meal will come from is part of everyday life. A lack of employment opportunities, low incomes and difficult family circumstances mean that, on some days, some children simply have no food at home. This is where our Saturday Feeding Programme comes in. Every Saturday, we create a place where children can not only eat, but also play, learn and simply be children. A qualified social worker supports the programme, builds trusting relationships with the children and is often able to identify difficult family situations at an early stage. Together with dedicated volunteers, she creates a safe and supportive environment that gives children stability and new perspectives. This long-term impact is exactly what matters to us. We do not support projects from the outside, but work hand in hand with local partner organisations that know their communities and their needs best. Solutions are developed locally – we help make them possible.
We are incredibly happy to see how the programme has grown. It shows us that it is reaching children where support is urgently needed. At the same time, this success brings a new challenge: with every additional child, the costs of food, care and running the programme increase.
We currently need to raise CHF 14,240 to ensure that the programme can continue without interruption until the end of 2026.
