At Small Village Botswana, we remain committed to supporting the Polokong Elderly Home. Earlier this month, three of our Swiss board members had the opportunity to visit the center in person during their time in Botswana. All travel expenses were covered privately by the board members as part of their personal commitment to this important project.
Egg Project in Motion
Earlier this year, Polokong launched a small chicken and egg project with support from First National Bank. Eggs are now being used at the center and sold to a nearby safari lodge, bringing in some additional income.
Winter Challenges
The cold season, especially in the Southern Hemisphere during June and July, poses significant difficulties for many elderly clients in reaching the center due to health and mobility concerns. In response, the dedicated Polokong team has increased home visits to ensure continued care and connection for those who are unable to come in.
New Rooms Completed
Six new rooms have recently been completed at the center. While a few remain unoccupied, they are available for both long-term residents and short-term elderly guests who may need temporary support or care.
Looking Ahead: Transport Needs
While the current bus is still running, it's clear that Polokong will need to consider a replacement in the near future to continue providing reliable transportation for residents.
How You Can Help
The elderly at Polokong represent a generation that helped build Botswana. With your support, we can continue to give back to them with dignity, care, and comfort.
